SIA music works to arrange regular classes and workshops in music and dance from Indian sub continent. These include classical as well folk music both vocal and instrumental, classical and folk dances like Bharat Natyam and Kathak, Dandiya as well as Bollywood. These classes, however, are subject to demand from our members
We take ideas and requests from our members and work with them to turn them into reality. eg
– Ran regular classes in Tabla over the past 4 years using teachers from the Bhavan in London and also using local talent.
– We also ran workshops in Bollywood dancing, Dandiya as well as Garba.
– We have been running regular classes in classical Hindustani music since 2008-9. These classes are run by Smt. Chandrima Misra, a very talented and accomplished,
resident teacher from the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan in London. These classes are run in traditional way and are generally held during the school academic year.
The current year begins from 19th of Sept. These classes can be attended as a hobby or to obtain recognised Diploma qualification.
The classes are supported by regular practice each week. We run classes as well as the practice sessions on Wednesday evenings from 17.45-19.45 in the Lawn Community Centre.
Currently we are working with other organisations in Swindon like Swindon Dance, Hindu Samaj and Swindon Tamil Association to develop a centre of music and dance in Swindon. Through this centre we offer training in Bharat Natyam and other traditional south Indian dances.
We are in the process of arranging classes in Kathak dance. So check the SIA website for new developments and to offer your views and ideas.
